From Physical Therapist to Surgeon: Dr. Rob Comrie‘s Journey in Joint Replacement

Spending five years as a physical therapist before pursuing his medical degree, Dr. Rob Comrie brings a unique perspective to his role as a joint replacement specialist. His journey from physical therapist to orthopedic surgeon was a career transition that continues to shape his medical practice.

Drawing on his experience as a physical therapist, Dr. Comrie leverages this experience to provide a holistic approach to patient care. He notes, “I think that my physical therapy background allows me to help patients with their non-operative treatments and their post-operative course. My background as a therapist helps me relate and understand the difficulties that my patients face. I also have more strategies learned from that time to help them through some of the issues that come along with total hip arthroplasty and total knee arthroplasty.”

In Dr. Comrie‘s own words, “My background as a physical therapist has undoubtedly influenced my approach to patient care. It has instilled in me a deep appreciation for the importance of patient education, rehabilitation, and long-term follow-up. By leveraging my dual expertise, I strive to empower patients to achieve their optimal level of function and mobility.” His ability to empathize with patients’ experiences, coupled with his extensive clinical expertise, enables him to provide comprehensive care tailored to individual needs.
