On the job injuries are not uncommon. In 2019, the incidence rate of total recordable cases (TRC) in private industry was 2.8 cases per 100 fulltime equivalent worker. Many of these injuries are musculoskeletal injuries and result in time off work.

Overexertion

Overexertion includes injuries related to pulling, pushing, lifting, holding and carrying activities at work. Overexertion has consistently been a number one workplace injury. The back is frequently the injured body part and transportation and warehouse employees tend to see more of these injuries.

Falls, slips and trips

Falls at work includes falls with and without elevation. Examples include falls on wet and slippery office floors and slips on snow covered surfaces. Falls from an elevated surface include slipping or falling from ladders, walls and stairways.  Sprains, strains and tears are most common in these injuries.

Contact with objects / equipment

Objects that fall from shelves or dropped by another person. Also, contact injuries caused by running into doors, tables, chairs, walls and other concrete objects are common in the workplace. Depending on the work environment, these can result in serious injury. Cuts and fractures are the most frequent injury.
