Sano Orthopedics is excited to welcome the physicians of Mid-America Orthopedics to our practice. With a shared interest in bringing better musculoskeletal care to patients, Sano found the physicians of MAO-KC to be a perfect fit. Dr. Matt Daggett, founder and President of Sano Orthopedics, states, “It starts with a shared vision. With the same focus, an aligned mission, we believe we can transform musculoskeletal care in Kansas City.”

Introducing Dr. Chris Eckland
Dr. Chris Eckland is a fellowship-trained and board-certified orthopedic surgeon specializing in shoulder, sports medicine, knee, and fracture care. Dr. Eckland is a native of Kansas and has spent his career in the area. He maintains a wide skill set in his expertise in orthopedics. This includes surgical and nonsurgical care of fractures, including pediatric fractures. He focuses on open and arthroscopic treatment of the shoulder and knee. Dr. Eckland performs numerous knee and shoulder replacements, including unicompartmental knee replacements.
Dr. Eckland will see patients out of Sano’s Paola and Leawood offices.

Introducing Dr. Michael Dempewolf
Dr. Michael Dempewolf is a fellowship-trained and board-certified sports medicine orthopedic surgeon at Sano Orthopedics. He specializes in shoulder, elbow, and knee conditions, with a focus on competitive athletes. Originally from St. Louis, Dr. Dempewolf earned a dual DO/MBA from Kansas City University in conjunction with Rockhurst University. He is active in the sports scene, both professionally and recreationally. He serves as team physician for Johnson County Community College, Kansas City Monarchs Baseball Club, and the Kansas City Blues Rugby organizations.
Dr. Dempewolf is happy to join Sano and states, “The collaborative efforts of our organizations create improved access to musculoskeletal care for our community. I am excited to share this vision with an amazing group of people as the newly expanded Sano Orthopedics.”

Introducing Dr. Kelly Own
Dr. Kelly Own is a fellowship-trained and board-certified physical medicine and rehabilitation spine care physician. Dr. Own brings a new specialty area to Sano Orthopedics. His primary focus is on the non-operative management of spine disorders, non-opioid pain management, musculoskeletal injuries, and therapeutic exercise. He has extensive training and expertise in performing interventional spine procedures such as epidurals, facet joint injections, medial branch nerve blocks, radiofrequency neurotomy, sacroiliac joint injections, and peripheral joint injections.

Other Sano Physicians and Providers
In addition to Dr. Chris Eckland, Dr. Michael Dempewolf, other Mid-America Orthopedics KC Providers are joining Sano’s team.
Dr. Jeff Colyer, Hand and Plastic Surgery Specialist, will continue to see patients out of our Leawood office. Dr. Pat Do will continue to see general orthopedics and worker’s compensation cases in a limited capacity out of Leawood. Meghan Koch is a nurse practitioner who will continue working alongside Dr. Dempewolf.
Brent Melroy and Bryan Romero are Physical Therapists will continue working in Sano’s new Leawood and Paola Physical Therapy clinics. Sano is excited to add the Physical Therapy service line to our portfolio. We plan to continue growing the capabilities of PT to better reach the needs of our patients.
