Dr. Daggett’s Specialties
This new technology is an innovative procedure utilized by our physicians that is rapidly changing the way orthopedics is practiced. This hand-held arthroscope (which we refer to as a camera on a needle) allows our surgeons to perform many common orthopedic surgeries without the use of general anesthesia or even the use of a scalpel. No incisions, no suture equals faster recovery. Dr. Matt Daggett recognized the potential of this minimally invasive technology and has pioneered the introduction of it across the US. The outcomes from his patients reaffirm this technology is the future of arthroscopy.
Knee Ligament & Meniscus Repair
(MCL, ALL, PCL, Meniscus Injuries) The knee is made up of many ligaments. With minimally invasive technology, Dr. Daggett is able to repair meniscus and repair ligaments with little down time. Dr. Daggett is leading international research on the anterolateral ligament (ALL).
Rotator Cuff Repair
A sudden fall, accident or heavy lifting may cause a tear or partial tear to the rotator cuff. Depending on the injury, conservative treatment or surgery may be recommended. Dr. Daggett is an expert in shoulder care, obtaining a shoulder fellowship in Lyon, France.
ACL Repair / Reconstruction
Dr. Daggett specializes in knee ACL repair and reconstruction. With his sports medicine fellowship and on-going research on ACL technique, Dr. Daggett uses the latest innovation to provide the best outcomes for his patients. He is able to individualize treatment plans with evidence-based medicine to maximize return to function without the risk of acl re-injury.
Sports & Athletic Injuries
Even the safest of athletes can sometimes encounter joint wear and tear or an injury that can leave them watching from the sidelines. Due to Dr. Daggett’s interest in helping competitive athletes return to their sport, Dr. Daggett obtained a sports medicine fellowship in Birmingham. He serves on the sports medicine advisory committee of MSHAA and he presents on the topic of injury prevention to coaches, therapists and parents.
Shoulder instability can occur following a traumatic accident such as a fall or collision with another athlete or object. It can also occur without significant trauma or injury. When a shoulder instability event occurs, it can also cause other damage to the shoulder. With Dr. Daggett’s extensive focus on shoulder care, he has comprehensive background to help patients return to function.
A shoulder joint replacement treats an arthritic shoulder joint. The procedure is usually recommended to treat severe shoulder arthritis that does not respond to nonsurgical treatment options. Dr. Matthew Daggett is fellowship trained in advanced shoulder care and continues to utilize new technology and treatments that lead to better outcomes. His training and specialized focus has helped many patients find pain relief.
As the largest joint in the body, and one of the most complex, the knee joint plays an important role in one’s everyday life. With extensive training and research published on knee treatments, Dr. Daggett has helped many patients recover from patella instability. Conservative treatment can usually heal instability when diagnosed properly.
The lining of our joints are covered in a thick layer of cartilage that allows smooth and pain-free motion. Overtime or secondary to injury, the articular cartilage can become damaged and allow the underlying bone to become exposed. Cartilage damage can cause increased pain, catching/locking, crepitus, and joint swelling. For these localized cartilage lesions, there are many forms of treatment available to preserve the joint, return to an active lifestyle, improve function, and reduce pain without discussion of joint replacement. Dr. Matt Daggett specializes in joint preservation, and he has helped relieve pain for many complicated knee injuries.
