Dr. Cullen’s Specialties
Knee Ligament & Meniscus Repair
When knee ligaments are damaged, the knee joint may become unstable. Depending on the injury and lifestyle of the patient, conservative treatment or surgery may be necessary to provide stabilization of the knee. Our goal at Sano Orthopedics is to individualize your treatment plan through evidence-based medicine to maximize your chance to return to function without the risk of re-injury.
Typically, arthritis is the most common reason for knee replacement surgery to be performed. Dr. Cullen specializes in knee care and has helped many patients return to function after knee replacement surgery.
Sports & Athletic Injuries
Dr. Cullen obtained a sports medicine fellowship at the MedStar Orthopeaedic Institute in Baltimore, MD and Washington D.C. During his fellowship he was able to work with high school, collegiate, and professional athletes. He applies that experience to his patients in Kansas City.
Hip arthroscopy, or a hip scope, is a surgical procedure that allows doctors to view the hip joint without making a large incision (cut) through the skin and other soft tissues. Arthroscopy is used to diagnose and treat a wide range of hip problems and is a specialty of Dr. Matt Cullen.
Rotator Cuff Repair
A sudden trip, accident or heavy lifting may cause a tear or partial tear to the rotator cuff. Depending on the injury, conservative treatment or surgery may be recommended. Dr. Cullen is an expert in shoulder care and takes the time to review the best options for his patients.
Shoulder instability can occur following a traumatic accident such as a fall or collision with another person or object. It can also occur without significant trauma or injury. When a shoulder instability event occurs, it can also cause other damage to the shoulder. Dr. Cullen takes time to review the best options for his patients.
The lining of our joints are covered in a thick layer of cartilage that allows smooth and pain-free motion. Overtime or secondary to injury, the articular cartilage can become damaged and allow the underlying bone to become exposed. Cartilage damage can cause increased pain, catching/locking, crepitus, and joint swelling. Dr. Cullen specializes in cartilage restoration and has helped many patients with complicated knee injuries return to full function.
